COVID-19 – Information
The laws governing the hospitality industry and social gatherings are continually changing.
Hull is currently in Tier 3 ‘Very High Alert’ with regards to Coronavirus restrictions. This means that until the area is moved into Tier 2 or lower, the restaurant has to remain closed for seated dining. We are however operating a finish at home takeaway service in this instance (see our website for details and to order).
Pending a decision from the government, from Saturday 19th December 2020 it may be possible to visit the restaurant in groups of up to six people from one household or support bubble.
It will not be possible to circumvent this by booking multiple tables for parties that do not comply with these rules. Please do not ask us to break the law by doing so.
There are plans to relax coronavirus rules regarding people gathering in homes over the Christmas period – please note that this only applies to homes, and that Tier rules must be observed when visiting hospitality venues such as ours.
Additionally, all hospitality businesses must close their doors no later than 11pm, with last orders for any alcohol to be placed no later than 10pm. To allow for customers to enjoy their experience without being rushed, 8pm will now be our last reservation time, and there will be a strict 2 hr maximum at the table to ensure that there are no large crowds of people leaving the restaurant at once.
Customers are now required by law to wear masks when moving around the premises for any reason, and may only remove masks once seated at a table. As always, our front of house staff will continue to wear face coverings.
Please bear the following in mind before committing to your reservation, as we will not be held accountable if we cannot honour your booking due to contravention or lack of awareness of the new laws:
- Any parties found to be knowingly booking multiple tables in order to increase the maximum number will be refused service;
- Any parties mixing with other known parties in the restaurant will be politely asked to observe social distancing, and if this is not respected, refused service;
- Any parties booking the maximum of six and arriving with extra guests (including children of any age) will be turned away.
The Government has stipulated severe fines not only for the restaurant if found to be in breach of these laws, but also for the guests themselves.
Please understand that we would like everyone to be able to enjoy Rupert & Darwin in the safest possible manner. We have worked incredibly hard to make our restaurant as safe and comfortable as possible and gain the trust of our customers.
We have redeveloped our first-floor bar into a dining room so that we can accommodate as many people as possible – please advise us if any member of your party cannot manage stairs so that we can make sure your table is on the ground floor.
Please help us to keep hospitality open and safe for all. If we cannot accept your booking because it contravenes the law, we hope you understand that we are doing our best to help slow the spread of COVID-19, and not just being ‘spoilsports’ for the sake of it.
With that said, we look forward to welcoming you to our COVID-secure dining environment in the near future.
We would like to reassure you we are closely following guidance from the government, HSE & Public Health England with advice taken from Environmental Health to ensure we are able to keep our customers & staff as safe as possible.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have implemented more stringent working practices than before. With this in mind, we ask you to help us by agreeing to the following terms & conditions relating to your booking. If you have any questions you can contact us by email firstname.lastname@example.org or call us on 01482 444587. If you are unable to get through on the phone, please leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Terms & Conditions
Entering/Exiting the Premises:
Please be courteous upon entering or exiting the building. If there are other guests present please give them plenty of space. Please ensure you use the touchless hand sanitiser provided near the front door immediately upon entry, and before exit. Masks/face coverings must be worn upon entry/exit and whenever guests are moving around the building for any reason. These may only be removed when seated at a table.
Currently the largest party we can accept for online reservations is 4 guests. We do have a very limited number of tables available for parties of up to 6 guests, so these will be available on a first-come first-served basis, and must be booked by phone or email.
No parties of over 6 guests will be accepted at this time, in line with the law.
We cannot in the current climate accept split bookings over two tables and seat them close together – this goes against the law and social distancing guidelines and could potentially present awkward situations between guests and staff.
We have removed several tables from the restaurant floor to enable a minimum of 1.5m space between tables, which impacts the capacity of the restaurant in order to maintain social distancing and prioritise the safety of our customers and staff.
We have divided our service times into sittings to enable us to minimise numbers of customers & staff in the building at any one time. This will help us to maintain social distancing and will help to keep our customers & staff safe. You can reserve a table at 15 minute intervals between 5pm-6pm & 7pm-8pm Wednesday – Saturday evening & 12-1pm, 2-3pm & 4-5pm on Sunday. Guests will have a maximum 2 hr duration at the table in the evening, and 2hrs for lunch/brunch, which will then allow us to fully sanitise and set up for the next guests to arrive. We ask that you arrive promptly for your reservation time. If you are running late, please call us as soon as possible to let us know. This could impact other customers arriving and we have to bear the importance of social distancing in mind. We will let you know whether we will be able to honour your reservation or we may be able to offer you an alternative. If you have any queries please email email@example.com
IMPORTANT: If for any reason you cannot honour your reservation, we implore you to take the time to contact the restaurant. We prepare and staff according to bookings, and in such critical times we cannot afford to have unnecessarily empty tables or waste produce. We appreciate that unavoidable circumstances arise, but it would be very helpful if possible for us to know in advance that you do not require the table.
If we do not receive any communication prior to the reservation time to inform us of lateness or cancellation, we reserve the right to resell your table after 20 minutes of non-attendance.
Please remember that we are operating on reduced numbers, and so it may be worthwhile considering evenings other than Friday and Saturday to dine out if we don’t have your preferred time available.
We have increased our cleaning schedule to ensure we are frequently sanitising contact points, including door handles, till screens, worktops etc. Chairs & tables will be fully sanitised between bookings. There are hand sanitiser dispensers throughout the building and we ask that you use them whenever you walk past one. Hand washing facilities are available in our toilet facilities, located on the first floor.
All cutlery, glassware and crockery is strictly one-use between thorough cleaning and sanitising/sterilising practices, all napkins are washed at over 60°C between uses, and we have introduced single-use condiments for the table.
We are mandated by government to maintain a social distance of 1m+. We have spaced our tables to include a minimum of 1.5m. We ask that you do not move tables, as this could impact on social distancing. We also ask that should you see another customer you know, that you do not gather at any point in the building to have a conversation. This is to help us to keep our customers and staff safe and to ensure all of our guests are able to enjoy dining out with us.
We strongly encourage the use of contactless card payments wherever possible. Apple Pay & Google Pay are happily accepted and recommended.
COVID-19 Test & Trace (NHS):
By confirming this reservation you agree to Rupert & Darwin Ltd keeping your contact details on record for a minimum of 21 days from your visit in order to facilitate the NHS Test & Trace System.
Breach of Policies:
Management reserve the right to refuse service to any guests in breach of these terms & conditions. Please note that Police and other law enforcement officers have the right to enforce social distancing within their powers.
